Alcove Units Lewes
Bespoke Alcove Units Lewes
Every alcove, perfectly filled.
Made to sit in a house with history.
Bespoke Alcove Cupboards & Shelving in Lewes
Alcoves in Lewes houses are rarely simple rectangles. Timber framing, uneven plaster, old skirting and cornice, and chimney breasts that have been altered over the centuries all make a standard unit look out of place.
Every alcove unit we make is drawn around the recess it is going into, built in our Pevensey workshop, then hand-sprayed and fitted by the same team. We match mouldings and skirting where it makes sense, so the units look as though they have always been there.
We work throughout Lewes and the surrounding villages, including Cliffe, Southover, Kingston, Ringmer, Barcombe and Glynde.
- Scribed to uneven period walls and ceilings
- Mouldings and skirting matched to the room
- Sympathetic to listed and conservation-area homes
- Heritage paint colours sprayed to order

Ideas
What an alcove can do
Alcoves are one of the most flexible spaces in a Lewes home. These are the three things people ask us for most.
Media & TV units
Alcoves either side of a TV make a natural media wall, with speakers, consoles and cables hidden behind doors.
Books & display
Shelving sized to your books and objects, with optional lighting to pick out the things you want on show.
Desk & home office
A fold-away or fixed desk built into one alcove, with shelving above, so work stays tidy and out of the way.
Finishes
Doors, details and paint
Every door and panel is made and sprayed in our workshop, so you are not limited to a supplier’s range.
Door styles
Shaker, flat panel or in-frame doors, with open shelving or glazed doors where you want to display rather than hide.
Paint & colour
Hand-sprayed in our own booth in any colour, including Farrow & Ball and Little Greene matches, or left as natural timber.

Matching skirting and cornice, integrated LED lighting and handles chosen to suit the rest of the room.

FAQs
Lewes alcove unit questions, answered
Do you work on listed and period properties?
Regularly. Alcove units in listed and conservation-area homes need to be scribed to what is actually there, and we are happy to match existing mouldings and panelling where appropriate.
Can you match the skirting and cornice in my room?
Usually, yes. We can run matching skirting across the base of the units and bring cornice detail across the top, so they read as part of the room.
My walls lean and bow. Will that show?
No. Every unit is scribed to the wall and ceiling on site, which hides the unevenness rather than highlighting it.
Shelving, cupboards or both?
Whatever suits the room and how you use it. Many Lewes clients choose shelving for books above panelled cupboards. We will talk it through at the design visit.
How much do alcove units cost in Lewes?
There is no fixed price list, because cost depends on the size, the mix of storage, the finish and the level of detailing. We do a free design visit and give you a clear, itemised quote with no obligation.
What else do you make?
Kitchens, fitted wardrobes, bookcases, media walls, home offices and under-stairs storage, all from the same workshop.
